Now Clyde Bowman has been elected sheriff, spelling trouble for Shad. He would leave the country, but Madge, his only remaining friend, isn't willing to leave.Nat Bodine in *Desert Death Song* is accused of having robbed a stage and wounding the sheriff in a gun battle. He is pursued by a posse into the desert, but everything is not what it seems.*Showdown on the Hogback* finds Tom Kedrick hired to run off a gang of vagrants and outlaws who are occupying a strip of land claimed to be unusable swamp. These "vagrants and outlaws" turn out to be hard-working ranchers and farmers who have improved the lands and don't want to leave.
