This documentary tells the story of the 130,000 horses that were shipped off alongside our troops to fight in the Middle East during World War I. None returned. While we may be becoming increasingly desensitised to images of bloody conflict, men in trenches, the brutality of the Western Front, there's something about this tale of lives lost, hopeless heroism and of the bond between man and horse that touches a chord. It demonstrates perfectly the terrible futility of this devastating conflict, and plays out as a deeply moving piece of television.
