HISTORY OF ART / ART & DESIGN STYLES. AUSTRALIAN. In 1696, Willen de Vlamingh, of the Netherlands, explored the coastline of Western Australia. Aboard his ship was the artist Victor Victorz, who painted watercolour profiles of the coast and Rottnest Island. These are the first images of Australia's western coastline. Also included are images of artists who accompanied French and English expeditions and of those artists who came in the colonial period, 1829-1901. The development of the arts community through Federation to the new millenium is chronicled and illustrated lavishly.
